Volunteer with St John Ambulance Community Care - Bus Driver Program
The St John Ambulance Community Care Branch has two buses kept in Mt Evelyn, and the Bus Driver program is expanding their activities of providing outings to residents of aged care homes and supported residential service.
We are seeking more drivers to facilitate this very valuable and worthwhile activity in our local community and ungently require volunteers who will be able to provide a regular commitment of one day per fortnight to enjoy the company of our elder members as they are reunited with community events and places.
Full training is given, and the only requirement is a full Victorian driver’s licence, to drive our fully automatic 12 seater mini buses.
St John provides the driver and the vehicle and a staff member from the facility must accompany the residents on the outing.
The outings usually consist of a picnic, a barbeque or lunch at a restaurant. Also trips to cinemas, Morning Melodies and other entertainments are also popular. Residents are normally picked up about 10:30am and return home about 3:30pm.
